About
Globe-Miami!
The
Globe-Miami area had only a few isolated ranches until
a mining boon in the 1860’s. While an early silver
strike faded, copper mining (and the accompanying turquoise)
remains the foundation of the area’s economy.
In the boom days our area was one of the most populated
in the Arizona Territory.
The Globe-Miami area has a colorful history. We had
Arizona’s first female stage robber (Pearl Hart).
The famous Apache Kid escaped en route from Globe to
the Yuma Territorial Prison. On a more positive note,
we are also the home of Arizona’s first governor,
George Hunt, and a more recent governor, Rose Mofford.
Globe-Miami is an easy 90 minute drive from central
Phoenix. From Tucson, plan on slightly longer. Both
routes offer spectacular scenery. We’re known
statewide for our Mexican food, but we have other nice
restaurants as well. Make it a day-trip, stop on your
way to the White Mountains or nearby Roosevelt or San
Carlos Lakes, or stay at one of our many fine motels
or bed-and-breakfasts and spend a few days with us.
We think you’ll be glad you did.
Unlike the skyscrapers and rush of downtown Phoenix
or Tucson, Globe and Miami have downtowns of friendly
people who live at a more leisurely pace, and old, mostly
two-story buildings retaining their character. Many
of the buildings have been carefully restored, as have
many older homes in the area. We welcome, and appreciate,
visitors to our community.
